Butterwick 6388

I loved Butterwick 6388 view D as soon as I saw its release.
It's sporty but classy at the same time. I sewed this up in a size large adding my usual length adjustments for a long torso. The fabric is a cotton poly sweatshirt that I picked up in Fabricland. Pattern calls for 2.17 meters of fabric, there was only 1.7 meters left on the bolt and I was easily able to fit the pattern on the amount I had. So apparently Butterwick is generous with their fabric allowance.

It's so cozy and warm. Perfect for winter. Fabricland has a New Years sale coming up and I hope to get more fabric to make another. More to come.....

McCalls 6398

I've had this stripped knit in my stash for a few years now. It was a bargain purchase from Fabric Mart but when it arrived it wasn't quite what I was expecting. Enter McCalls 6398.
I didn't want the sweetheart neckline however. Since I didn't want to purchase another pattern, I simply pinned the pieces together and cut out the front and back as one piece.
I'm happy with the end result and it gets the fabric out of my cupboard.

Have 3 more completed pieces to post yet so more coming.

Newlook 6164

I've got several new makes to share as I've been busy sewing since Xmas eve. First up is Newlook 6164. I picked this one up in a thrift shop, I really like Newlook patterns but you can no longer purchase them in Canada.

I used a lightweight ponte that I brought last winter from Emma One Sock. It's a beautiful fabric, originally I wanted to make a cardigan but it was a roll end and I only had 1.34 of a yard.  So finally I made a skirt.
I messed up cutting and had to piece a strip in the back to fix it. So mad at myself for this.  Pattern is nice, pretty basic.

Ocean Wave Quilt

Merry Christmas! I finished an Ocean Wave quilt Xmas eve that's a gift for my brother. Just in time!
Fabrics are mostly stash ones that I had as I've been working down the stash of quilting fabric. I haven't purchased quilt fabric in years, though the pickings are getting slim of some colours. I love the result of this one.

I have a week off from work so I'm hoping to get lots of sewing done.

Queen sized quilt

Thought I would share a project that was sitting half done for a long time. It's a pattern from Better Home quilt magazine in Xmas greens and reds. The top was done for ages but machine quilting is not my favourite part of quilting. Large quilts are especially hard to push thru the thoart of my machine.

Anyways I'm glad to have it completed and love the end result.

I have a second quilt top in queen size pieced together that I need to quilt soon as it's my brothers Xmas present. I will share pictures when it's done.

McCall's 8572

Long time between blogging again! There hasn't been a lot of sewing the past while due to renovations.

I picked up this pattern in a box of patterns for free at a garage sale. I thought it would be a good basis shift dress.
It took some fiddling in the back to get a nice fit.  For some reason dresses with a waist are easier to get a nice fit for me. Also, I found the neckline to be rather high when I tried it on. I scooped it down as much as possible. I'm happy with the end result but the pattern wasn't a winner for me.
The fabric is a lovely cotton Lyra stretch sateen from Blackbird Fabrics. The fabrics I've purchased from her are really nice quality. Just wish she had a larger selection on her website and a wider range of colours as most of the fabrics are always blue.

T Shirts

Hello! It's been a long time since the last post. I had my house on the market for the longest time, finally sold and moved.

I'm way behind on posting so I thought I would start with recent t shirt makes. All my RTW t shirts had seen better days so it was time to test out some patterns.

First up was Maria of Demark's pattern that I got free signing up for their newsletter. The cotton lycra in from Fabric.com and is really nice.

I liked the fit for the most part but felt it could be better.  So I next tried Blank Slate Blanc t shirt pattern that I got free for joining their Facebook group.
I liked the fit better so I followed up with 2 more

The purple and white are both cotton lycra blends from Fabric.com. The quality is very nice. The last one was a splurge fabric from Smugglers Daughter, it's very soft with lace and sequins. Since the pattern only needs a yard of fabric it's a way to use more expensive yardage.
